Lou brushed off her sundress from the dirt and dust on the street as she stepped out of a rusty pick up truck headed for parts unknown. The old driver simply nodded at her and drove his noisy car down the road at a pace slower than molasses. That had possibly been one of the most uncomfortable hitchhikes of her life. The man had smelled of swine and sweat, and his car didn't smell much better. However, he was very kind. He even gave Louisa a bit of chocolate on the way to the inn. His name had been Vincenzo. He was making his way back to his farm from the marketplace. On the drive down he told her about his family, his young daughter and his strong infant of a son who was destined to play futbol. All of this had been in Italian, and Louisa wasn't very well phrased. She could understand it, but she couldn't really speak it. All she could say was "Grazie per il giro" (thanks for the ride) and "Dica ciao alla vostra famiglia per me" (say hello to your family for me). She could say those phrases in at least five more languages. Some phrases were just universal with people.
The warm wind whipped at the ribbon on Lou's sunhat. She peered through her rose colored sunglasses at the establishment before her. It was a quaint little bed and breakfast. She could swear that she heard a horse whinnying in the distance. It seemed nice enough, and hopefully not too expensive. Maybe she could even find a job here. She had only arrived in St. Lorenza a day ago, but she usually could find a job within a few hours. She had spent a lot of time sight-seeing, though. Tuscany was a beautiful place, the birthplace of the Renaissance. There was artwork everywhere, and each building seemed like a work of art in its own right.
Louisa sighed as she looked around. Yes, this would be her home for now. She had a lot of money left over from Firenze, so she should be able to afford a few nights, at least. Her gold bangles jingled as she made her way inside, her old leather suitcase in hand. Her heels clicked as she entered. It seemed like a sweet enough place, pretty safe and quiet. She would have no problem coming and going as she pleased. There was nothing Lou hated more than snoops.
She looked around for someone to assist her with her...bag. That was really pointless. She just needed to talk to someone about a job...or a room...or both.

the light streamed through the curtains and danced lightly on her face, giving her the first warning sign that it was morning. her eyes remained shut in protest as she wavered in that half-asleep state. "wake up, momma," holly said as she pounced on the bed, tugging lightly at brynne's arm. after a small moan and shoving her own face into the pillow, she muttered out a few words. "five more minutes holls." holly, used to this behavior tugged at her brynne's arm again, this time giggling a little bit. "c'mon momma, you gotta get up. time to go to the inn!" with another moan of protest, brynne reluctantly rolled over and opened her eyes. "mornin holly," she said with a yawn. "i take it you wanna come to work with me today?" holly hopped off the bed and headed towards the hallway. "of course i do momma! now, go get dressed! i'm already ready," holly said in a matter-of-fact manner before skipping out of the bedroom. "so bossy," brynne said, chuckling lightly as she rolled out of bed and into her closet. after quickly dressing and tossing her hair up into a messy bun she wandered out of her bedroom and down the stairs. "alright, alright. we can go now, holly." she said, pulling her shoes on as she reached the foyer. "finally!" the six year old said, hopping up from where she was sitting and heading towards the door. brynne chuckled and followed her out the door.
the commute to the inn was never a long journey. in fact, the property of the inn bordered the edge of the golightly vineyard. the trip on foot would only take ten or fifteen minutes. the dusty path that connected the two properties made for a five minute long drive. brynne had always thought it to be rather convenient. after all, it meant she could go home for lunch or to take a nap. it also meant she could easily go check on the inn at any time of night. her work hours were never consistent, but living so close made it easy for her to come in at any time she was needed.
the first half an hour or so of being at the inn was rather uneventful. after doing her usual morning rounds of checking on everything, brynne sat herself at the front desk, where holden had already made herself comfortable with her coloring books. it was much more quiet than it usually was, which wasn't necessarily a bad thing, but it left brynne with nothing to really do besides sit and color with her daughter. "can you pass the yellow?" bee asked, pointing to the crayon on the other side of the desk, not noticing that someone had walked into the inn. holly passed her the crayon before noticing the sundress clad young woman who had just stepped inside. "hiii!" holly said, excitedly waving to the guest. "welcome to the inn!" brynne quickly looked up from the coloring book and towards the person holly had greeted. "hello there," she said. "welcome to breakfast at brynne's. anything i can help you with?" she asked, sitting up and fully turning her attention to the woman who walked in.
note: sorry, this isn't all that great. the next will definitely be better. i was in a bit of a rush.
